An exciting new dining destination will soon be opening at The Westchester in White Plains. A collection of eclectic eateries - including some of Manhattan’s and Connecticut’s most popular and notable casual dining hot spots – announced that they will join the mall’s new Savor Westchester, part of the multimillion-dollar enhancement that was completed last year.
Simon, a global leader in retail real estate, announced this week that Whitmans New York, Mighty Quinn’s Barbeque, Juice Generation, Tomato & Co., and Bluestone Lane will be part of the new Savor Westchester when it opens in April, with Hai Street Kitchen joining this summer.
“The Westchester will now feature the first-class dining destination that its loyal shoppers have requested,’’ said Paula Kelliher, Director of Marketing for The Westchester. “Each of these new eateries will bring their unique brand – from healthy to hearty – to a spectacular dining experience that will draw foodies as well as shoppers from across the region.”
Meghann Martindale, Simon’s Director of Leasing said, “We believe Savor Westchester will help fill a major dining void in White Plains. It will appeal to the downtown daytime population, the surrounding communities, and our guests who have been shopping the mall for over two decades.”
The 350-seat dining venue includes an outdoor dining terrace overlooking downtown White Plains. Adjacent to Savor Westchester on Level 4, shoppers can experience two entertainment areas, PLAY, a 2,300-square-foot interactive, educational play area sponsored by Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital that incorporates the principles of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) and CONNECT, a technology lounge featuring nine flat screen televisions in a 16-foot by 9-foot viewing wall, showing sports, news and entertainment programming, and boasting complimentary iPad and phone charging stations. Both are currently open.
Restaurants preparing to open at Savor Westchester expressed excitement at being part of such an innovative concept, as well as reaching new food lovers. Here’s what some had to say:
“Whitmans is excited to open at Savor in the Westchester,” said Whitmans co-owner Craig Koenig. “It’s our first location outside of Manhattan and we are looking forward to the opportunity to serve our burgers and cheesesteaks to a new clientele that might not frequent our locations in the city.”
Micha Magid, co-founder, Mighty Quinn’s Barbeque, said, “We look forward to opening Mighty Quinn's in Westchester and serving up our style of authentic slow smoked barbeque. Savor Westchester will be a phenomenal new dining destination in the area and we're excited to be a part of this new project.”
“Many of our loyal customers live in Westchester, so opening a location there was a no-brainer for us,” said Eric Helms, founder of Juice Generation. “When we saw the renderings for the project, we knew immediately that it was right for our brand. The team at Simon has redefined the food court experience. Juice Generation at The Westchester will have a similar footprint as our NYC locations. We’ll be bringing our menu of fresh juices, smoothies and acai bowls with an emphasis on organic and locally grown produce. We are delighted to introduce our brand to new customers, while continuing to satisfy long-time customers in this market.”
Dominick Mirabile, executive chef and owner of Tomato & Co., added: “We’re thrilled by the positive response to our concept, and could not have picked a better place to open our first New York location. The new dining destination, Savor at The Westchester, is the perfect fit for our Neapolitan-style, fast-gourmet restaurant. We know the Westchester area recognizes and appreciates high-quality, fresh, ingredients and we aim to please. Our main attraction, Neapolitan-style fast-fired pizza is a real hit with customers. They love pairing our homemade sauces, with their favorite toppings to create their own masterpiece. We are hoping to become the go-to place in Westchester for DIY pizza, pasta, delicious salads and homemade gelato.”
Other enhancements to The Westchester include modernized elevators and lobbies; all new facades on major mall entrances, new landscaping and store flooring with grey and beige Italian limestone tile, new carpeting, as well as soft seating areas with complimentary charging stations.
The Westchester features new and improved interior and exterior signage, sliding doors and new LED Energy Efficient Certified Lighting. The restroom facilities have been upgraded, including new finishes, fixtures and lighting.
New luxury amenities including upgraded valet facilities and on-call valet parking from mobile devices allows customers to pre-request their vehicle by text message just minutes before leaving the mall. A new concierge service allows for packages to be delivered to their vehicles at the valet area.
Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom have also recently completed major remodeling projects to their stores at The Westchester.
